Recipes from Grandma

This old recipe for sugar cookies is from a notebook my Grandma Ida (born in 1906) kept of her favorite recipes. This old recipe is probably from the 1930s or 1940s. Grandma marked this as a Master Recipe, whatever that meant!

3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cup flour
1 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift together dry ingredients. Add shortening, mixing in with a fork.

Add unbeaten eggs and flavoring. Mix well.

Roll out very thin on floured board, and cut with floured cookie cutter.

Decorate top, if desired.

Bake on greased baking sheet in a moderate oven of 375 degrees for 8 – 9 minutes.

Makes 6 dozen.
